Each year we seek funding to run The Family Camp Project.
For the past two summers the Westminster College Foundation has given Pearce Williams a grant to run the Family Camp Project.
You may ask, "What is the Family Camp Project?" Here is how we describe the FCP and the Goals of the program:
Pearce Williams Christian Centre will be offering a free family camp experience to families in the Elgin County and St. Thomas area of Ontario who are part of the Ontario Works program.
This Family Camp Project will give the families the opportunity to take time away from their everyday lives and learn and grow in our camp setting while feeling a sense of social inclusion.
The Family Camp Project includes meals, accommodations and programming for the three days of the camp. Programs range from daily age appropriate programs for the children and adults, training sessions for the adults, family programs each evening and special guests as well.
The first goal of the Family Camp Project is to give the parents the ability to provide their children some time away from a situation where poverty is prevalent.
The second goal of the Family Camp Project is to benefit the children by showing them loving and caring staff members who are excellent role models and show genuine concern for the well being of both the children and the parents.
Another goal of this program is to offer the families some education and training in a new setting that may help them when trying to reenter the workforce and seeking employment.
